A 2012 study involving 45 physically fit males found out that drinking cold water during exercise significantly reduces the rise in core body temperature compared with drinking moral temperature water.
According to the indian traditions of Ayurvedic medicine, cold water can cause an imbalance to the body and slow the digestive process. In Western medicine, there is little scientific evidence to suggest that cold water is bad for the body.
Cold water aids weight loss because the colder the water you drink the more calories it will take to bring it up to body temperature and it also regulates body temperature by avoiding overheating in the body especially if the body has exerts itself. However, cold water also has it’s risk;
• People with conditions that affects the food pipe such as Achalasia should avoid drinking cold water. Achalasia is a rare condition that makes swallowing of food or drink very difficult.
• It can trigger some ailments like migraine if the drinker is susceptible to it.
• It hamper the body’s ability to digest food since it’s harder for blood cells to circulate nutrients around it.
• It thickens nasal mucus especially if the person has cold or flu
